Irazú Volcano National Park

This active & incredible volcano has five craters and breathtaking views, low vegetation and cold weather with fog most of the times. Irazú Volcano is the highest in Costa Rica with 3,400 msnm and is located in Cartago, the old capital of Costa Rica.
The main attractive of the volcano is the lagoon that frequently changes its color and size, in the rainy season its pretty full however in summer gets dry.
To arrive to this volcano you'll have to drive about 1 hour and 20 minutes from San José or about 45 minutes from Cartago.
